A makeover starts with what you want the smile to feel like at conversational distance, in photographs, in mirrors, in three years. Working backward from that, we plan the smallest set of interventions that will get you there, preserve as much of your own enamel as possible, and last for decades.
What a smile makeover may include
- Porcelain veneers — thin custom porcelain shells bonded to the front of selected teeth to change color, shape, length, or alignment
- Professional whitening — brightening baseline shade before veneers so adjacent teeth harmonize
- Invisalign — a short clear-aligner phase to align crowded or rotated teeth, often allowing fewer veneers and more preserved enamel
- Composite bonding — conservative shape refinement on a single tooth or edge
- Gum reshaping — soft-tissue laser contouring when a “gummy” smile or asymmetric gum line is part of what bothers you

The digital smile design process
- Listen. An unhurried first conversation about what you want the smile to be, with references if you have them. We’ll ask carefully calibrated questions; there is no wrong answer.
- Scan and photograph. A full-mouth iTero digital scan, intraoral photographs, and full-face portraits in natural light.
- Design. Dr. Desai designs the proposed smile on a digital twin of your teeth, balancing aesthetics with what your bite will tolerate long-term.
- Preview. A temporary mock-up of the proposed smile is placed directly over your existing teeth so you can see it — in your mouth, in your light, in a real mirror — before we touch a single tooth permanently.
- Refine. You live with the mock-up for a few days. We adjust. The final design only proceeds once it’s right.
- Deliver. Conservative tooth preparation, lab-fabricated ceramic work by a master ceramist, careful bonding, careful bite balancing.
- Reveal. The final smile, delivered without drama, made to look like nothing was done.
How long does a smile makeover take?
Most smile makeover cases at Dublin Ranch Dental run 6–14 weeks from first conversation to final reveal. Cases that include an Invisalign alignment phase run 4–12 months. Larger reconstructions extend further. We’ll talk through the timeline at the consultation; we’re flexible about pacing the work around your life.
How much of my natural tooth do you remove?
As little as possible. Dr. Desai’s training and philosophy both favor the most conservative preparation that will give a beautiful, durable result. In some cases, no preparation at all is needed. Where preparation is required, it is typically a fraction of a millimeter — less than most patients expect.
Will it look fake?
Done well, no. The combination of master-ceramist porcelain, careful shade-matching, surface-texture detail, and bite engineering is what separates a natural-looking smile from one that announces itself. The work we are proudest of is the work that nobody notices.
